LOCATION
The project is to be located in the Tanga Region. This Region borders with Kenya on the northern coastal area of Tanzania. It is one of the country’s largest Region.
Though the area is endowed with some of the country’s most fertile soils, arable lands, and is well situated to service most of the inland regions it remains the least developed.
The project would be sited 30km from the Region’s capital Tanga, with Abaral Farm as the nucleus and the villages of Kwamkembe, Murungu, Kisimatui, Kirare and Pongwe as satellite villages.

Korongwe Sisal Estates, until its abandonment in 1988, was the main source of employment for surrounding villages. The Estate was nationalised in the 1970’s. Following the abandonment of sisal production, the lands were acquired from the Government and renamed Judy Plantations. It was subsequently split into two units registered at the Lands Office as 17/1 and 17/2. The former (17/1 of 820 hectares) retained the name Judy Plantations and the latter (17/2 of 571 hectares) was given to the local villagers of Kwamkembe Village to farm. In February 1999 Judy Plantations was acquired by Sykes International Marketing Limited (SIM LTD) and renamed Abaral Farms Ltd.
